You're being really considerate about it, where as I think it sounds like absolute dog shit. The Japanese need to be called out for how culturally disconnected they are from African Americans. Almost every black individual in anime has a raspy, edgy and stoic deep voice affiliated with them - and Barret just got the same treatment...

Newsflash Japan: not all black people sound like that...

Barret sounding like a big african american tough guy; is that really a problem? This criticism is borderline worse than IGN "Too much water"

Not every african american sound like mike tyson. ijs.

Mr. T Barret will never be given enough praise.

Pity da foo. Berret sounds like Mr. T foo!

Don't get me wrong; I think the voice acting sounds awful across the board - just like all the other Square Enix games. (not including ones they only published, like Dues Ex) But Barrets voice is laughably bad because of how stereotypical it is, and how it doesn't match his character.

I don't know who consists of Square Enix's localization department for when they hire voice talent for English speaking actors, but they all need to be fired.

Square Enix is a AAA studio with a AAA budget - we deserve better than "mediocre".

Nobody can tell me with a straight face that the voice acting and dialogue is on par with past games like The Last of Us, Uncharted series, Dead Space 1 & 2, BioShock series, Bethesda games, Witcher series, Tomb Raider series, (which Square Enix published ironically, but it was made in U.S.) GTA series, and so on & so on...

Square Enix has the budget of most those studios except maybe Bethesda and Rockstar Games, who's budget is above AAA standards. So I damn well expect them to their money where their character's mouths are.
