I kind of wish that Ubisoft did a next gen reimagining of the first AC game because there's just something about it's macabre atmosphere the other games are lacking in but for the most part the first game definitely ended up being more repetitive because it undeniably had comparatively inferior mechanics and a very narrow mission design to the later games ... 

The first AC game had really great concept design and story but the later AC games had much better execution thus being more smoother to play. The original AC game could stand to learn a lot from the newer games mechanics, level/world design, and more varied progression structure if they ever decide to do a remake ... 

The problem with the newer games IMO is that everything about them was way too conspicuous for the franchise's original concept ...
