Now companies have an online store library of games and there is money to get out of those games as long as they make platforms that can still play them.

I don't think the priority has changed personally. Where there's no significant financial or technical hurdle (physical media) consoles have always been BC and for sure BC between current gen and next will be significantly easier than it would have been with the transition with 7th gen to 8th, making it a no brainer.
