Based on historical statement on this sites, I don't see this ending well. I agree with his sentiment, not necessarily his tone/language, but honestly the tone of the majority anti-epic is also awful as well.

Well those people should understand that it is either buy exclusivity or die.

How about this for a third Option: Just bring a better service than Steam. Considering how bad Steam has become, that wouldn't have been that hard to do.

Hey, I can even bring up a fourth Option: Carving out their own niche, like GOG does with Retro games and itch.io does with indies.

But no, they had to make it even worse than Steam and then buy exclusivities on top of it.

Seriously, there could have been lots of different ways to not die - they just chose the worst ones from a consumer perspective. And that's why many gamers are pissed about the EGS. They could even just have the games being cheaper in their store, promoted it out and waited at bit, and gamers who would have been interested into it would have flocked there from themselves. But what they do instead is holding games randsom behind their shitty storefront.

And no, it's not just about installing yet another store. I certainly don't mind about that (would be number 7 8 to me, after Impulse, GamersGate, Desura, GOG, Uplay, Steam and itch.io, so one more or less doesn't affect me, really), but about the services it provides - or rather doesn't provide. And the fact that TenCent owns half of the store and already had data violations is just the cherry on top for me.
