I've done VR before.  I'm not saying its not immersive, but frankly it's like an uncanny valley type thing.  Like being immersed in motion without feeling the motion.  One of the things I hate about motion controls.  Lifting a rock or hitting a ball or swinging a sword.  The weight is not there and thus it completely throws me off balance.
