I know it has nothing to do with your point, but Dragon's Dogma is a very hack n slash heavy action RPG.
This vid is short, and focuses mostly on someone who is maining a fighter with a longsword, but there are a few bits of ranged combat and magic users too. I was a dual knife wielder main/ secondary acher, which was even more frenetic than most of what you see here. You can even climb onto the larger creatures, which can get crazy.
