You know at least when XBL and PS Plus came out let people try it out for free for a brief moment, heck they even had games that gave 1-3 months free of their online service. Holidays always spike subscribers, and it will be much more pronounced with the recent release of Smash bros. I can definitely see a large dropoff, but it is still currently outpacing PS Plus. But of course a $20 service outpacing a $50 one isn't too surprising.
And Nintendo Online did have a free trial, maybe not anymore since they knew Smash bros would drive subscribers.
