I don't get the criticism on Kingdom Hearts 3 second week drop. Were people saying the same when every other RPG that drops 80% w/w, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which was released during the holiday season)?

It's because the were people who for a while were saying how KH would give the PS4 a significant boost in competing in Japan while with the likes of Xenoblade nothing of the sort was said so KH coming out and not even denting the NS' position before dropping 80% is being picked up on as a result.
