Friday news, part two:

Betray your friends in the Project Winter open beta this weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/betray-your-friends-in-the-project-winter-open-beta-this-weekend/
Mafia, Werewolf, Kane and Lynch 2 multiplayer—deception and paranoia are great fodder for games, so I’m rather looking forward to Project Winter’s upcoming beta weekend. The game of co-op survival and backstabbing launches in Early Access next week, but first it’s hosting an open beta from tomorrow and ending on February 3.

Dauntless is joining the Epic Games Store

Update: Dauntless dev Phoenix Labs emailed PC Gamer to clarify that the migration process will be opt-in only, not an automatic migration of accounts.
Although Epic's store will become the only way to launch Dauntless, "no one will have their account linked without their participation," a rep told PC Gamer. "During the process, we are not sharing any personal info with Epic," the comment added.

Quest for Glory-inspired Mage's Initiation is out now
https://www.pcgamer.com/quest-for-glory-inspired-mages-initiation-is-out-now/
After a decade in development—I previewed it five years ago!—Mage’s Initiation has finally launched. It’s a point and click adventure heavily inspired by Sierra classics like Kings Quest and Quest for Glory. Like the latter, it also dips into the realm of RPGs, complete with magical specialisations and optional combat. Watch the launch trailer above.

Today's Fallout 76 patch intends to fix the stuff broken by the last patch
https://www.pcgamer.com/todays-fallout-76-patch-intends-to-fix-the-stuff-broken-by-the-last-patch/
Fallout 76 will receive a hotfix today that intends to undo a lot of the issues introduced by the last patch.
According to Bethesda, what happened was "a merge of internal development builds failed to execute properly prior to releasing Patch 5." This reintroduced several older issues that had been corrected in an earlier patch, such as the fix for bobby pin weight, issues with plans and recipes, bulk scrap that can no longer be auto-scrapped, and others.

Surprise Hearthstone balance update nerfs 'prevalent' Basic and Classic cards
https://www.pcgamer.com/surprise-hearthstone-balance-update-nerfs-prevalent-basic-and-classic-cards/
In a surprise move, given that the last round of nerfs only happened a month ago, Blizzard is changing another batch of problematic cards. The next Hearthstone balance update will focus almost exclusively on the Basic and Classic sets, with changes intended to make some of the most prevalent "auto-includes" into more strategically-selective choices.

Stay in the light and try not to die in the supernatural thriller Those Who Remain
https://www.pcgamer.com/stay-in-the-light-and-try-not-to-die-in-the-supernatural-thriller-those-who-remain/
Those Who Remain is a "psychological thriller" about life in a small town, the choices we make, and the sometimes-unwelcome consequences that result. Oh, and the small town is enshrouded in the perpetual darkness of a demonic curse that's trapped its citizens in the cold clutches of an endless supernatural night.

Medieval fantasy RTS Bannermen will hold an open beta test next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/medieval-fantasy-rts-bannermen-will-hold-an-open-beta-test-next-week/
Bannermen is a medieval RTS with dynamic environments that we first looked at a couple of years ago. It was in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign that seemed to be going well at the time, but it ran into trouble and was ultimately cancelled. Development went on, however, and it's now slated for release on February 21. Ahead of that, gamers will have a chance to see what it's all about in an open beta that will take place from February 8-10.

Ubisoft apologizes for The Division 2 email promising 'a real government shutdown'
https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-apologizes-for-the-division-2-email-promising-a-real-government-shutdown/
According to a number of people on reddit and Twitter, Ubisoft sent out a marketing email for The Division 2 earlier today which prompted a quick retraction. The email was an invitation to the game's private beta, with the subject line: "Come see what a real government shutdown looks like in the Private Beta".

BioWare thinks Anthem's demo weekend will go smoothly this time
https://www.pcgamer.com/bioware-thinks-anthems-demo-weekend-will-go-smoothly-this-time/
Anthem’s public demo kicks off today, running for the weekend. Despite the numerous issues that plagued the VIP demo, BioWare reckons this one is going to go a lot more smoothly, though players should still be prepared for new and returning issues.

Mosh Pit Simulator looks like a brilliant, confusing VR nightmare
https://www.pcgamer.com/mosh-pit-simulator-looks-like-a-brilliant-confusing-vr-nightmare/
Mosh Pit Simulator is a wonky VR physics sandbox full of brainless, boneless creatures that vaguely resemble people. And you can stick rockets on a whale. The story trailer, above, doesn’t clear anything up. Is there a mosh pit? Does it matter? It’s out now in Early Access.

Let's check now the weekend offers from GOG and Steam:

That's it. Have a happy and gaming weekend.
