All the while global warming is increasing, we have nuclear weapons enough to kill most of life, populism is on the rise, foolish fears of falling out if power are making the US do stupid and selfish things, we still kill each other over small matters, Yemen faced one of the worst starvation crisis in a long while, Syria faced one of the worst humanitarian crisis a while back, Israel and Palestine can't stop fighting, the Uyghur are still being mistreated, rohingya are still being massacred and are facing genocide, turkey's leader has gone insane, Brazil elected an insane man that loves torture and kílling, Venezuela is in disarray, India and Pakistan can't stop fighting, India mistreats Kashmiris, Pakistan mistreats Baloch, Brexit is a shit show, a maniac worse than the maniacs before him in the white house, education and healthcare declining in many nations, the middle class can't sustain itself if not given a pay cheque for one month as witnessed by the US partial shutdown, 1 in 200 people in the UK are homeless, a nation like north Korea still exists on this planet, a nation like Saudi Arabia still exists on the earth, the US was running out of bombs according to a report I read a few months back, etc etc etc. We are doing better in some ways and worse in others. But I wouldn't call what we are doing properly handling ourselves as a species

A lot of that stuff is simply not true.  Healthcare continues to improve at an extremely rapid pace, as does access to education (the quality of which we can debate forever).  You mention homelessness, but the fact is that far, far fewer people live in extreme poverty today than at any time in history.  Trump is scum, just like Obama, just like Bush, just like Clinton.  Brexit is just the political issue of the day, it doesn't speak to how well humans are doing in general.  War has been the only constant throughout all of human history.  Yeah, it's bad.  But, it ain't new.  The middle class didn't even exist until the last hundred years or so.  Previously, they were all just poor all the time.  We have nukes, yup.  But, nobody is using them.

By nearly every objective measure, life is getting better for humans.  You can pick out problems if you want. You can dwell on the negative if you want.  But, that doesn't change the fact that were all lucky to be alive now, versus any other time in human history.

What you say is mostly fact, but the feeling of contentment at least in the 1st World seems to be dropping based off many studies, it could be that humans are really only content in hunter-gather settings for many social reasons that dont really exist now as 99% of our own evolution was in that prior state, that would need to be studied further
