None of those can be considered downplaying though because they say nothing negative about PS4.

On the other hand you have recent posts in that same thread saying that Switch sales arent impressive because it's a handheld+console which absolutely counts as downplaying.

1. It's not that different to say that PS4 only won because it had more releases, than to say that Wii only won because it got more popular with the wide mainstream audience. Both are downplaying. But whatever. That's not the point. The point is that every console maker has extreme "fans". Try enter a thread about one of the early PS4 remasters. Here, you'll see a lot of people hating on the "PortStation".

2. Go look again. I am the questioning the user who said that Switch sales aren't impressive because it's a handheld+console. Please be careful to not wrongfully accuse other users of doing something like that.

1. Its all about how things are worded and intent. There is a difference between explaining why things happen and downplaying. Saying that Sony did a good job because they spread out big releases better through the year and that they retain the peak year is not downplaying and nobody has every used the phrase "wide mainstream appeal" when talking about Wii, they say "casual" which more times than not is used in a derogatory way on forums.

2. I never accused you of anything, I never even mentioned you. I pointed out that post to show what actual downplaying is. The example you gave was not downplaying, it was a rational post that can lead to healthy discussion while the example I gave was trolling/flamebait. Two completely different things.

But you're right, every fanbase has people going around downplaying the others. I remember those PortStation threads too.
