Besides, staying in the EU was a key part of Lib Dem policy in the last election. So a vote for them effectively was a vote for staying in the EU, no need for a second referendum even for your "institutions of democracy" bullshit. Not as if the Lib Dems will ever have a majority though

Again, technically, it's not needed in a legally binding sense, but if you think parliament would simply defy the referendum under any circumstances you just don't understand politics. It's a little bit more doable in a country like yours where there's no constitution, but even here, referendums are often not legally binding, but even Republicans will honor them on paper if they win, though they might try to sabotage them a bit. But no, of course the Lib Dems would never have a majority, that hypothetical was just to illustrate a point because their whole platform is basically being the pro-Remain party because Corbyn is being stupid and not just accepting that the vast majority of his base wants to remain.
