Well I do just look at him the same as Vectorman from the Megadrive game of the same name, at the time awesome looking and outstanding on the hardware because of how much movement the technology gifted the character, he was iconic because he was so animated.... but of course that doesn't evolve, a tech demo from one generation can't really go on to be a character on hardware down the line because his only main characteristics are the hardware limitations of the system they were designed on, at least... I couldn't picture Vectorman in a X1/PS4 title

I feel like that might have been the case with Knack and instead it was made into a game and not the other way around. Similar to Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube, it was sort of used as a showcase demo for the GC and than was made into a game.
