I think the fact that movies have carved their niche in popular culture as an occasional leisurely activity is the exact reason why you see so many lists which only feature popular blockbuster releases on them: Not only will these movies have the most marketing and thus the highest chance to be one of the few films a casual movie goer sees a year, but these films are also way more digestible on first viewing and don't require multiple viewings to really get the full picture. They don't have a lot of divisive elements about them in particular. It makes for a very good treat but it isn't god for those who look for a more artistic industry. |
