Not a single Pokémon game has passed 16 - 17 million since the original.

Smash Ultimate is looking at 25 million plus life time sales.

The only other game I can see touching that is Mario Kart 9. Nothing else will come close EVER on Switch.

Not a single mainline Pokémon has been released on a home console, ever. Never mind in HD... while also being portable. It's impossible not to see the ridiculous sales potential of it, in fact at this point it's really silly to ever underestimate Pokémon's sales. Sun/Moon sold more first week than Smash Ultimate already - the only reason I even made that post in the first place was because of the income over units argument, since Sun/Moon are obviously $40 games. That is to say, next year we will have a Pokémon game priced at $60 that will sell better than Smash Ultimate first week.

Bolded because that's what I was saying. I think Pokémon definitely has the potential to outsell Smash Ultimate lifetime, but it won't be easy. First week though? It'll sell much more, no doubt.

Edit: also, whenever Mario Kart 9 is a thing, it won't be on the Switch.

I think new Pokemon will be the testing ground for if anything can surpass Smash. It might but the last few Pokemon games have pushed some core fans away with them being too easy.

Also $60 pricing vs $40 could make a difference. But yes, since Colosseum, there's been no home console Pokemon games to really base sales predictions off of. If they add the best parts of Let's Go and Sun/Moon/X/Y, could see the best selling Pokemon game of all time potentially.

I don't see Mario Kart beating Smash honestly. We already have 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Wii was probably big because of the steering wheel novelty.
