The problem here is not the brand itself actually. It is one specific console. With which they did some serious mistakes by positioning and marketing it at launch. The excuse of brand being weaker globally is not really that great as it makes you wonder what exactly have they been doing for almost 20 years. They've been in this market for almost the same time as Sony and still haven't managed to expand the way Playstation did? I don't actually think there is a problem with the brand recognition. While 360 sold 80m+ for the most part because of very strong US presence and still lost in EU/JP, in its days, Xbox brand was somewhat recognised worldwide.

You and colafitte are both missing the point. I didn't say Xbox wasn't recognized worldwide. It just isn't as big a brand as the others. That's based on data, not simply an opinion. It doesn't matter how long they've been in the biz. One is always going to be weaker than another. That's every business that has ever existed. The distance apart further strengthens this idea. There isn't an issue with brand recognition, they're just simply not as big.

Trying to look for some underlying cause why the console sold just 7m in its 5th year just isn't very realistic without context.

I'm sorry CGI...., i'm going to be honest....XDD. I was playing devil's advocate. I don't wanted to say it myself because i would sound like a ps4 fanboy, but if you said the same..., well, you sound better..XD. I said multiples times in this forum PS is way more popular as a brand worldwide than Xbox. You didn't fall for my Nintendo trap though....XD. I was just having fun so don't take what i said too seriously. In fact, i even used Lebron James as an analogy of success and in reality i can't stand him that much....i find him overrated.

But yes, agree completely with all you said.
