Xenoblade 2 is ineligible by nature. Any game that releases in December is basically guaranteed to be ignored by TGA on the promise that "it'll be eligible for next year!".

Xenoblade X was nominated, and it released in Dec 2015. Guess it just goes to show how amazing that game was.

 

In terms of a soundtrack nomination, Xenoblade 2 should have had more of a chance due to its conventionally good soundtrack, as opposed to X's unconventionally good soundtrack.
