I still haven't played BOTW yet, i hope this game doesn't ruin my experience.

I wouldn't worry. RDR2 has nothing on the game play design of BotW. The attention to detail is astounding in RDR2 yet the game play so far is the same old. Control wise BotW also works much better. They are two very different games.

You can better compare it to Horizon zero dawn. RDR2 might be better than that, except for now the clunky controls and not so good HDR use are holding it back a bit. For world design it easily beats HZD, of course weapons and enemies are kinda limited due to the setting.

I haven't played AC odyssey, that should be a better comparison. Both trying to be semi realistic 'limited' by accurately representing a time period.

Can't wait to play more. I need to head back to camp as apparently my weapons are on my horse there.

This is a pretty good representation of how I feel so far. No offense to Red Dead, but in my limited time with it i'm not that impressed overall. Of course I expect that to change, it will probably impress me as I go on, but I think this generation just has too many good open world games already. I really don't see how people who put in the same amount of hours as me are already calling it the best game of the generation? I swear, with these open world games, it's always like "let's just move on to the next big thing!" I remember when The Witcher 3 was the best open world game ever, I remember when Horizon: Zero Dawn was, I remember when Breath of the Wild was, hell I even remember when there was a decent amount of people saying that Assassin's Creed: Origins had the best open world ever. No problem with that, it's amazing that the genre has seen so many worth games in this generation. But I wish it didn't come at the expense of other games.

It most certainly does not make any of the games I've mentioned feel obsolete though (except maybe AssCreed, haven't played that yet). In particular BOTW has very different design and Horizon is much more combat-focused.

It's also incredibly clunky so far.
