Hi there, fellows. Has anyone here played Salt and Sanctuary, Furi and (or) Dead Cells on Switch? I really wanted some impressions because I will eventually get all those games and the Switch would be my go to place for that kind of thing, but since action games need reliable performance to be more enjoyable, I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to get one or some of those on my PC. A guy's review, for instance, made me give up from getting Slain: Back from Hell on Switch because the framerate seems to be very unstable in the systems version. Heard similar things on Metascore user reviews for Furi. Any thoughts?

The framerate of Dead Cells is instable when good weapons are used. There are significant drops when turrets are used and they are so powerful that you'll choose them over other weapons almost always. Additionally, there are frameskips where 0.5-1 seconds aren't rendered at all and they don't only happen when entering a shop, but also during enemy encounters. That's irritating.

The performance of Dead Cells on Switch isn't on a level where the game can be recommended, but...

...the game itself can't be recommended to begin with. Two huge errors in game design:

1. The difficulty spike for the final boss is unbelievable. The previous boss is a piece of cake that can barely attack during the 10-20 seconds the fight lasts, but the final boss has about 20 times more health and kills you in a couple of hits. Since this is a game where you have to stand still to heal, it hardly matters how many healing potions you have; you probably won't be able to use them without getting another hit that makes the heal moot.

2. The premise is to replay the game again and again, with permanent upgrades making later runs easier. However, the only real upgrade are the number of healing potions you carry with you. Unlocking weapons is much closer to a downgrade because the weapons you pick up are randomized, so the more weapons you unlock, the lower the chance that you get a good one. There are no permanent stat upgrades to HP, attack, defense and speed. There is no equipment that carries over, so everytime you find something good, you will have nothing of it after you died.

Combine those two fundamental things which are tremendously detrimental to how fun Dead Cells is and it's very easy to speak the verdict that the game is shit. Dead Cells shouldn't be bought on any platform. It's no fun to replay an hour long game that you'll likely not beat and future runs don't raise your chances to pull it off, because your character starts with the same garbage he always starts with (except number of healing potions).

A typical case of reviewers handing out scores without beating the game, because the average reviewer can hardly be called good at video games. Sure, if Dead Cells worked as advertised, then it could be a good game. But it doesn't, so it's a waste of time and money.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experince. I'll follow your advice and keep the distance
