I've been visiting this site for years without an account and one thing I've noticed in here is the  amount misinformation that gets spread out daily around its peers. I usually don't care but this one was so wrong, I felt like I really needed to make an account to correct you. That's how wrong you are. GAAP has nothing to do with games as a service. Companies have certain rules for when they report their earnings. Companies use either GAAP or IFRS. In this article, it's using its earnings while using GAAP and without using it. Has NOTHING to do with what you said.
