I'm in the super middle class in America where I live. If I move an hour away, I'm living much nicer. If I move to say San Fran or something, I'm homeless.

Taking a huge place like America and lumping it down to some average is meaningless. Someone making $15 an hour somewhere is living comfortably and somewhere else they can't even afford to eat.
