Why in the world would they release a Star Wars movie in May when they have set the expectation that Fall is the season for it?  Nobody is expecting a Star Wars in May.  Nobody knows this movie just released.  People have only generally heard about this movie even exists.  Yes it will flop.

They were attempting to reclaim May. Historically speaking, May was when Star Wars movies released. All 3 original trilogy and all 3 prequel trilogy movies released in May. Clearly it has failed though, too many other big franchises have risen up for Star Wars to have May on lock like it used to. While I do expect we're going to start seeing more than 1 Star Wars movie a year soon (there are too many in development for them to do just 1 a year), I assume they're going to look for other months besides May to release the 1st movie of the year (with the 2nd always landing in December).

Oh ok.  Makes sense but it take a while to produce a trend.  The worst thing to do when trying to start a particular trend is to change the trend mid-trend. lol. with so much money involved and so many people to "prove" something to, I doubt there is anyone brave enough not to switch things up on a whim. The problem isn't with May, but that they set a standard the last 3 years for Star Wars in the fall, and in the Spring you build up hype for Star Wars in the fall.  Seems like a curve ball when they Star Wars in the spring during the time that we are building hype for Star Wars in the fall. lol.

Plus there was a lot of Star Wars hype going into May 4th for at least a week prior.  Had they released it on May 4th, then that would have given them the hype train they needed.  Someone really dropped the ball on this release.
