And how are we determining whether or not it's shoe-horned in? By whether or not you like it? Why does it bother you if someone says they're gay? Even if it's not essential to the plot? Movies and TVs have plenty of scenes/details that can be considered as not being essential. Are we going to eliminate side-quests in games too because they're not essential to the main plot?

Well, that's an excellent logical fallacy you have there with the side-quest question. I may steal that for my own use later if you don't mind.

And I am very much against non-essential scenes in movies. Like about 35% of the Last Jedi, lol. If something is superfluous in a film, it's better off not being there. Games are an entirely different medium and have completely different rules. If someone in a movie leaves the main plot for half an hour to do a side quest that has nothing to do with it, it's going to murder the pacing of the film. Anything that isn't needed is a distraction that can ruin immersion, and I don't like muh immersion being ruined.

Asking a question is a logical fallacy? Again, how are we even determining what is considered to be essential? If it adds to the atmosphere/lore it serves the purpose of making the world more detailed/lively.
