Have you ever given any thought to the fact that the variables between consoles that launched 22 and 17 years ago are FAR too many to make any sales comparisons valid? Because I have... every single time I see threads like this.

Sure, but so?  There are a multitude of factors and variables that are different between when and how Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds each broke baseball's home run record. Doesn't change the fact that its interesting to watch something climb up a list of its peers.
