I really didn't like the trailer .. it reminded me of the new ghostbusters movie with all those women.

Is it anything close to the new Blade Runner movie for example? cause that one was a masterpiece.

I hated the Ghostbusters reboot.  The fact it is a women team is explained within the world and makes sense, there is zero "girl power" and the characters have depth, flaws, and make mistakes.  I'd rate it a 9/10 while I'd give Ghosterbusters Reboot a 2/10, they aren't in the same hemisphere in terms of film making.

From a technical perspective I'd say Annihiliation is the best sci-fi movie I've seen since Blade Runner 2049, but I wouldn't put it on the same level.  Both deserve to be seen on a big screen though.

Thanks for this great thread and topic. You make very good points and I very much agree with how you see the film and its context in the movie landscape

I hear it’s a very slow movie. I think movies don’t have to be slow to be good.

Did not feel slow to me but fitting pace. It's not supposed to be a fast paced action blockbuster, but that doesn't mean it had lengths or boring parts

Really nice movie, a bit unsettling, uncanny visuals.

However I hate the somebody-in-the-team-cracks-and-tries-to-fuck-up-everyone trope

Agreed, that was a bit too cliche. That's the only thing I didn't like about the movie

The RLM review was the first I heard of this film, and I really want to see it now. Most criticism I hear is "it's too slow" or "I could't follow it."

That's because it wasn't a big dumb action / superhero flick designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator of movie audiences.  General audiences would rather go see Black Panther for a 5th time.
