Nope, this is a consequence of not having a lower priced SKU in the market in December. Simple as that. The PS4 sold better all year than any other year in 2017, and went on to have the best BF in PlayStation history and the best November sales outside launch in PS4 history. All because for one week it had stock of a $199 SKU.

This has nothing to do with games or momentum. Its pricing.

Sony obviously didn't think they needed a price drop. But are we talking about sales world-wide in December or just US?

If US, then they underestimated the uptake of Switch or how well Xbox would sell in December. No doubt they will learn from their mistakes this December period in the US.

In terms of world-wide, didn't PS4 still do really well outside the US?? According to Polygon on Jan 8th Sony had sold "73.6 million units, as of Dec. 31, 2017." So that would mean sales of 3.6million worldwide for December alone, because beginning of December Sony said they had sold 70million.
