Selling retail space is not uncommon, it’s not different than buying the front window of a store to promote a specific product for a specific period of time. It’s marketing and there’s nothing shady about it.

If Nintendo want more shelf space, they have two ways to do it:
Outbid Sony and Microsoft or offer something that will force the retailer to allocate more space.

I think they are going for the latter.
