I think Valve will get shat on regardless of what they do. Like they removed 150-200 "fake" games from steam and no one cared... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-09-27-valve-removes-over-150-fake-games-from-steam They remove one game with questionable material based on their investigation on the actions of the developer and everyone is like derp, Valve is terrible. It's like wtf... Like k, I don't agree with the decision of removing the game but here's the thing. What do people think will happen if Valve starts curating their store seriously? When you have curators, games will be subjective af. If a Curator thinks something is meant for "pedos" and shouldn't be on steam, it will either be removed or not allowed on steam in the first place. But what will people's reaction is gonna be? Boo Valve! On the other end, if they don't curate, guess what's people's reaction is gonna be? Boo Valve! It's laughable honestly. |
That is bullcrap. There is something as an objective minimum standard a game should fulfill before being sold as such. That has nothing to do with subjectivity. If a game is too unfinished to be sold it's not a problem if Valve's curators deny it. They can just come back when there actually is a game with content and at least some kind of polish. Which they of course won't because crap games will always stay crap games. You can instantly see if a game was made by a competent developer or someone who just wants to make a quick buck.
Removing 200 fake games from Steam is what's laughable. First of all, how did they get there in the first place? Are you really commending Valve for cleaning up some of the shit they themselves let on their storefront? And 200 is nothing against the thousands of trash games on the store. They fucking let games on their store that don't even have a fucking working executable file.
Only 10 people would be enough to check the vast majority of new games on steam for a minimum level of quality. Valve has enough money to hire hundreds if not thousands of curators to do that job, but they won't even spend money on one and just let everything on their store by default.
The only time Valve does something is if it threatens bad PR on a large scale. For example games that could be perceived as pedo bait. Valve doesn't care about quality or protecting customers, they only care about raking in the maximum amount of money. They only did something against the gambling on their store when it developed into a news story.
So no, fuck Valve. I won't give them any credit for doing the right thing only when their marketing department forces them to do it. It's deplorable.
