So GT Sport requires an online connection for a majority of the content, and has no real career mode

lol @ people saying GT has never had much of a career mode. That's a load of crap. The first few had amazing career modes. IIRC 4/5 did as well, although the UI in 5 was way too bad for me to stick around much. Didn't play much of 6.

I see, that's bad. So yeah Fuck GT sports. Hope Sony/PD will learn a valuable lesson here.
