He wouldn't be the first bigoted Republican with power. Tell me what would be worse under Pence and I'm telling you the same would happen under Trump and worse. I wouldn't go as far as preferring Hitler in his place but there aren't a lot of people who would be a worse president. Pence is just a standard bigoted Republican who will do the usual bigot shtick, yet Trump is someone who has no plan and will just destroy everything either out of ignorance or spite.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
