Pokemon GO would have never happened unless Nintendo signed off on it. It was Iwata's strategy to partner with them. Besides, Nintendo wanted to get people interested in their 3DS games, which obviously worked. That aside, they launched 3 mobile games, one of which was so-so, but the other two have been very very succesful.
