KJU is crazy, but he's not stupid. He also likes the good life sufficiently that he's not the type who would watch the whole world burn just be be king of the ashes. There is no way DPRK would ever launch a first strike vs they USA. The only danger DPRK poses to the USA is if DPRK believes the USA is about to strike first, in which case it will launch. And probably aim at South Korea rather than the USA.
So the way to stop DPRK from launching nukes is to make it feel like it's not in imminent danger of being hit by a massive US strike. The question is whether Trump is both crazy and stupid.
