I'll add Battle Isle (PC Gaming veterans might know this series), Xenonauts (basically a reimagening of the first X-Com, but set during the cold war), Master of Magic (Master of Orion meets Civilization and Tolkien), Lords of Magic (though the battles are real-time here, like in the Total war series), Age of Wonders, Galactic Civilizations, King's Bounty (though map travel is in realtime), Jagged Alliance, Expeditions: Conquistador, Sunrider, Final Fantasy tactics, Nectaris...
Serioiusly, there's so many of them and I love them all. But only a very select few are still being made these days - though the Indie scene seems to have a much bigger interest into this genre than the publishers.
