If BOTW passes 10 million then it will no longer be niche - I doubt it will pass 10 million, I expect around 7-8 million. But if it does pass 10 we'll call it mainstream. Until it does though its conjecture.

You're right.

Zelda isn't mainstream, and it never was.

I mean, just go outside and ask people on the streets if they ever heard of something called Zelda. I'm pretty sure not even 1% will answer, and probably most of those who do will be talking about Robin Williams' daughter.

Go outside and ask people in the streets what Forza, Gran Turismo, Fallout, or The Witcher is and they'll have no clue. Unless it's Mario, PacMan or Candy Crush they'll likely have no clue, but do we call any of these games niche?

The mass majority of these people on the streets we're talking about's only gaming device is likely to be their smartphone. Even if they did know the franchise they'd likely never buy or play it to begin with, because they're not gamers. There are over 7 billion people in this world and under 200 million units 8th gen hardware sold, there will be a considerate number of people on the streets who've never even heard of either the PS4, Xbox One, WiiU, 3DS, PS Vita or Switch.
