I see what you mean - the seller is not amazon itself. I suppose a lot of people would consider a $98 markup to be too much even though $398 is a fairly standard price for a new system. I guess Nintendo isn't shipping enough hardware to the US for some reason.

Well, it has only been out for 2 whole months.  And there's a possibility it could be more Nvidia's fault than Nintendo on the lack of stock.  Still, I expect things to calm down a bit during the upcoming months, as they are usually slow.

Still a far cry from when consoles could be marked up $300+ and still be sold.

Well those $300 mark ups happened at the launch of machines, not so much months later.  And Holiday launches make it far worse as there's a sort of deadline to acquire the product.  You can't wait for months, Christmas is around the corner.  Launching in March, there are more people willing to wait longer than in the Holidays because of the lack of this deadline.  But the prices have reacyed $450.

And the shipments aren't peculiarly low or anything, demand is just high.  Shipment size is fairly standard, it's just taking time to get the shipments stepped up.

And yeah, $400 is what the PS4 launched at.  But that's not necessarily the right price.  This does show that they could have maybe priced it at that and gotten decent sales, but more than anything it shows that $300 was more of a sweet spot than people thought.
