I've had similar experiences at work. Some of my co-workers also have Switches, so during our lunch break we all get together and play some Mario Kart. Other people will sometimes pop in and ask what was going on, and inevitably a a joycon would be passed over and they'd join in with the use of the split screen. On no other gaming device would that be possible.

I never expected to actually be playing like those dorks in the commercials, but I've ended up using the table top mode and shared joycons more than a few times. Nintendo is smart to focus on releasing so many multiplayer games early on in the systems life (Mario Kart, ARMS, and Splatoon).
