Kinda reminds me a little of Mario Kart 64 which I believe for the time (1997) was the fastest selling game ever in the US. 

That was Diddy Kong Racing.  Was the fastest to sell 1 million units in the US ever at the time. Something like 11 days.

If I recall correctly Mario Kart 64 had the record first actually. But it's so long ago now (20 years ago, lol) that it's hard to find PR on the internet. I wonder if IGN64 has news archives that far back.
