Very impressive. People forget the PS4 launched in late November - prime holiday sales period - while the Switch launched at the start of March.

It just doesn't matter. Like people rally keep saying that. Do you really think the amount of consoles sold at the launch of any new hardware is being sold to the average joe consumer that just waltz into a store to pick one up?

The PS4 even after reasing in november remained mostly out of stock till around march the following year.  months later. If it had released in january it would have been the same thing.

That aside, if the last best selling launch nintendo had was under 500k then thisisn't that big a deal. I personally expected them to sell through around 800k on day one pending availability.

I mean we are in a world where stuff gets pre-orders well into their millions before the product even reaches the market for crying out loud.
