That makes literally no sense. "Damn god" would be cursing a god. "God damn" is calling for god to curse something else or proclaiming that god has already cursed it.
Or do you mean the "do not take god's name in vain" thing? Because that would be something different. If so, then statements like, "god, that cat is sexy," would be equally at fault.
Ultimately, however, you have no say in how someone else manages their religion. Perhaps he believes in a god that likes to damn stuff and doesn't mind when other people talk about his hobbies?
