I really don't wanna use this argument, but why do so many of the European Americans I see who visit Europe frequently never mention this as a huge issue? During the summer I visited Amsterdam, from the upper class to the lower class and didn't have too many issues (I got tired from all the biking you have to do). Either Amsterdam isn't heavily involved in the issue, or I looked in the wrong places and asked the wrong people.

I guess the only reason I haven't really learned more about the immigrant issue is because both sides of the media apparently show what the media doesn't want me to see. Liberal news stations claim it, conservative stations do it as well- it is a clear mess. As much as I dislike staying ignorant on a subject, I really would prefer to know nothing about it than to only have biased sources.

Trust me, I didn't want it to be true. I've voted Labour all my life and risked life and limb arguing against homophobia, sexism, racism and supported any other groups that weren't there to defend themselves. I've also lost jobs with the disabled and the elderly because I couldn't just pretend what I was seeing was normal in order to keep my job. I HATE racism, but this isn't racism. It's just that the media are painting it that way in order to justify hiding it away from the masses. Look into it and you'll probably be as shocked as me. You'll come across videos presented by decent people but unfortunately you'll also find videos presented by less savoury characters who obviously have an aggenda. BUT, the sheer weight of 'actual' footage becomes impossible to ignore once you're passed the point of ignoring it.
