Kinda par for the course.

Miyamoto doesn't like CDs, Miyamoto doesn't like online, etc. etc. Whatever new trend there is in gaming that isn't from Nintendo he doesn't like.

Like I said before Nintendo wouldn't like VR either because it's not kid friendly. Having little 8-year-old Timmy puke on the carpet because he played Virtual Mario too long is not going to sit well with mommy, and Nintendo desperately needs to be mom-approved.

Not sure if you're kidding on the second line since I never heard HIM say anything about CDs and online back then. Let's not try to point everything that went wrong towards him. He's not perfect (no one is), I get it. That's just his opinion at the moment. The tweet of him playing VR at least shows he's at least interested in where the tech will go in providing more gameplay opportunities. He personally just isn't in the band wagon yet. Games like RE7 show the potential of long games being played in VR, but are few and far between at the moment.

RE7 in VR is more 'revolutionary' than anything else this gen I would say and that includes the Switch which looks fun don't get me wrong, but doesn't really have any new gameplay ideas per se, it's just an amalgam of past Nintendo systems squished into one device.

If I had to show someone who's not that versed on the advances of video games what's "new" with modern gaming, I would show them VR, no question. The other stuff they've all seen/experienced before.
