I didn't start really come back to gaming until early 2014 and so I can't personally recall the optimism that initially surrounded the Wii U. I do remember June-July 2014 after Mario Kart 8 came out and the Wii U was briefly beating the XOne in weekly sales on VGchartz, though. There were threads and a few hopeful Nintendo fans (including myself) who were speculating that the Wii U might be able to beat the XOne in sales during Christmas 2014. Unfortunately, that fantasy was shattered rather quickly once September 2014 came. By December 2014 Miyamoto was already spreading rumors about new hardware. The Wii U's moment in the sun was very brief.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go back to those days because it just means that I have to go through the disappointment of the Wii U's failure again. I would rather just keep moving forward and see Nintendo release an actual successful console in the coming year.
