Nearly all of those games have issues that cause them to fall short of greatness in my view.

The key underlying theme of Gamecube's library for me was that it was wrong kind of experimental. It did things differently just for the sake of being different, and in doing so actually detracted from the appeal of many of their franchises. It's the same problem we saw this gen with games like Starfox Zero.

Maybe it's our approach to it. I loved the experimentation, the craziness, the ditching the safe formula to try risking frontiers. It didn't pay off with WiiU, but it did pay off with Gamecube in my eyes.

I like experimentation to a degree; I liked the switch to a first person perspective with Metroid Prime, and I liked the motion controls of the Wii. But I feel like too many of Nintendo's GCN games strayed away from what made their predecessors great. Sunshine didn't have the varied worlds of Mario 64, Starfox Adventure didn't have the fast paced action of its forebears, Double Dash made Mario Kart more convoluted and less accessible, etc.
