See that's the thing that is stirring the pot a little. In some cases, the "gameplay video" actually isn't running very well. This is leading to some confusion from all sides.
Is Skyrim or NBA 2K likely coming to the Switch? I really hope for Nintendo's sake that they are, because I genuinely do not feel that Nintendo is going to keep making hardware if the Switch tanks, and like the X1 has shown, the release of a console can be absolutely critical. The last thing Nintendo needs is the backlash from showing widely known and beloved games in their announcement trailer that currently have no plans of being developed for the NS. That would be a total disaster.
It's just super annoying as someone who enjoyed the Wii, and really wants to see Nintendo reverse its gradual loss of influence in the industry, there are so many little things that would take preview trailer and make it 1000 times better. For example, release a spec sheet of the console after the trailer drops. Release high resolution images for the press to use. Answer some basic questions about the console is a more clear and cocise way, because any ambiguity this close to the release of the console introduces doubt in the minds of prospective buyers.
Like in this case, all Nintendo had to say was "While all game footage in the trailer represents titles that are in development for the Nintendo Switch, you shouldn't assume what you saw on the video represents actual Switch game footage". Is that so hard? That doesn't hurt anything, except eliminate a variable. Any policy that prevents them from saying such a thing is a bad policy.
All of those who are speculating about how the graphics processor of the NS might not be finalized, and that Nvidia is cooking up some super powerful highly custom chip. We are FIVE MONTHS from the release of the console, that decision has to have been made 8-10 months before release at the earliest. If that is the case, if they are still trying to work out the yields for this super custom chip, it makes you wonder how prepared Nintendo actually is for the release of this console. They could quash all of this nonsense with one simple spec sheet, and then they can just focus on hyping gamers on their new console rather than sorting through the confusion.
Nintendo needs to do better here, they will sell more consoles and create more hype if they do. That is, unless they're being vague because there's gremlins lurking unneath the surface of the NS, that they want to keep quiet until they can no longer hold back. I don't think any video game fan really wants that to be the case though. A humbly successful Nintendo is good for the video game industry as a whole, there's no denying that.
