FWIW, I run WPA and filter out foreign MAC addresses and it took me just a few moments to get the Wii online. With the PS3 I used a cable since I actually play games online with it (same with the 360). But since the Wii doesn't have an ethernet port I didn't have any alternative but to go wireless, or spend another $30 on an ethernet adapter.
