You expect that only if you dont know what are main reasons why Wii U failed so bad. I cant see NX selling less than Wii U in any case beacuse its not power one of main reasons why Wii U sold so bad. Wii U is bloody mess, Nintendo made so many mistakes with it that hardly they can to do all those mistakes again, but main reasons why Wii U failed so bad are: bad, weak and misunderstood marketing (you still have some people that still think Wii U is addon for Wii, or they dont know that Wii U exist at all), high price compared to competition (PS3/Xbox 360, because Wii U runed exactly same multiplatform games even some games runed worse while Wii U had higher price of around $100), and weak launch and 1st year linep with constant delays.

Just good marketing, affordable price ($249-300), great launch and 1st year lineup (just new Zelda is much stronger than Wii U had in entire 1st year), and power of hardware that will be enuf for XB1/PS4 multiplats ports, will be more that unuf that NX easily pass Wii U numbers (probably in first two years) regardles Sony and MS consoles, not mention that NX will probably have shared library with NX handheld and that will lead to higher popularity of NX console.

yeah yeah... that's it!!

Or... just hear me out on this one, I know it's a crazy idea, but... what if people realize that Nintendo hardware is pretty much destined to be low specced and mostly designed for party games and family friendly games, and for these people, much like the Wii was 'good enough' with it's Wii sports, for many people the Wii U will be good enough with it's Smash Bros and Zelda (it's still supposed to come out on Wii U right?), leaving little to no incentive for people who purchased the Wii U to upgrade.

Yeah I know, it's just a crazy idea, probably it will sell 100+ Million consoles in the next 5 years... right?..... right.......?

Hardly Nintendo can do exactly same thing like they done with Wii twice, something similar maybe, but again very underpowered hardware with strong gimmick that sell tens of millions to casuals, hardly.
