So here's my first bold E3 prediction - perhaps it'll shock you, perhaps it won't.

I predict that Ubisoft will unveil the classic Wii franchise Red Steel - remastered for VR devices.

When you think about it, it's a low-risk high-reward proposition for Ubisoft.

For one thing, the Red Steel games have a classic look and strong art direction that lend incredibly well for a remaster with minimal work on textures/assets. Red Steel 2 especially

Red Steel 1

Red Steel 2

And since the games were originally on the Wii - you could even get these games running on weaker VR hardware like Gear VR. It overall bodes well for getting the game to hit the 1080p 60fps on major VR platforms. It's obviously a VR port that brings far fewer headaches to achieve than say Assassin's Creed or Far Cry into VR.

Nearly all the issues other VR games are currently having with motion control were already solved with Red Steel 2. Redesign some of the more dull levels of Red Steel 1, put it all into one package and you have a sure fire hit on VR.

Red Steel 2 particularly was already a fun game -- add VR and that experience of slicing, dicing and shooting becomes that much more immersive.

Overall, it's an easy project that lends some renewed strength to one of Ubisoft's existing and underappreciated properties rather than a huge AAA-sized gambit on VR trend that could easily be stumbling rather than soaring a year or two out from now.

I think it'll kick off a trend of other Wii games of the same mold going over to VR. Examples: MadWorld, Zack & Wiki, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, House of Dead etc.

What do you think?
