There were several scenarios in this situation, I'll rank in order of worse for consumer:

1) No sale, no price drop
2) Sale, no price drop
3) Sale, price back to original, then price drop
4) Sale, then price drop
5) Price drop right from the start.

Considering that this is the second-best version of what could have happened, and better than what people in this thread seem to think is "right (ie, number 3), I don't see the controversy.

Prices for everything change all the time. Retail always uses "tricks" like this. It's how things work. You were happy at the price you bought the game when you bought it, else you wouldn't have bought it. That's all that matters.
