As a die-hard Shenmue fan, I really enjoyed Yakuza 5, but yeah it is a totally different sort of game.
Still, I think most Shenmue lovers will enjoy Yakuza 5 for its great amount of contents and city exploring.
Still, Yakuza 5 has a more casual atmosphere and doesn't reach that same emotional level as Shenmue did for me.
