The bigest reason I play videogames is because it's a whole package. Games evolved and story is a big part of them now, there are plenty of games out there that are pure gameplay (Marios and such) and they have theyre space (and generaly review well) but we moved past the days that that was enought. Gamers are also older and therefore apreciate a story way more than they did on the infancy of the industry.

Bottom line is, if it werent important ppl wouldnt be giving as much atention to it as they do, so story matter.

This.

And to the OP.  Could you please define what is "fun"?

Why do you think people play games like Until Dawn, Walking Dead, Beyond two souls, etc? It's because TO THEM those games are fun to play.

Now I'm going to give you my personal example: I have never been able to find fun in 2D platformer games (or at least not enough to finish them. I can play 1 or 2 hours).  And usually the platforming sections in any game are my least favorite parts in said games.  But I understand that they have their space and that there are pleny of people who enjoy them.

In the end what I'm trying to say here is that "fun" is really subjective to each individual.
